Read together with your child. Having companionship when trying something new makes it not so scary and you can be an example as to how fun reading can be.

Buy them books they are interested in. Don-t make them read something just because you think it is a good book. Let them pick what they desire.

Along the same lines as the last suggestion, let kids know that reading pertains to more than just books. Let them read magazines, comic books, and signs as you are driving down the road.

Lastly, instill in your kids that books should be treasured. If you throw them on the floor or anywhere, kids will not respect books and if they don-t respect books, they won-t respect reading.
